Explosions Seen from Basra War with Iraq: 21 March 2003, Friday.
As the ground war got under way in Iraq, explosions
and fireballs were seen in the direction of Basra, Iraq's second
city.
The explosions could be a mix of artillery fire and
bombings from warplanes.
Meanwhile, British troops secured a
position on the Faw peninsula in southern Iraq, a strategic point
for oil tanker traffic at the head of the Gulf, and later headed
north meeting only light resistance, a British military spokesman
said.
