Brussels, March 24, IRNA -- "Denmark is now at war with the regime of 
Saddam Hussein in Iraq," confirmed a press release from the Danish    
Ministry of Defense, Danish news agency Ritzau reported Monday.       
    The ministry clarification came after confusion arose late Friday 
following a misleading statement by an army spokesman.                
    Army press officer Torben Schakinger had said that Denmark wasn't 
"officially at war with Iraq," despite the government, backed by the  
Danish People's Party, already having sanctioned the deployment of two
Danish Navy vessels to support US forces, said the agency.            
    The Danish Ministry of Defense, which says it took the step on    
legal grounds, has now overruled its previous statement.
